Conversation: Venue Photos

Hello everyone. I am VELP.ONE, Editor-in-Chief here at VELP. I started this website not to create a place where we could take potshots at people, but instead celebrate venues for being awesome. We want to show what works well and what works not-as-well in a way that is constructive and beneficial.

In that spirit, though, we're open to critique. We may do things here that work well, and not-so-well. We're available on Discord (velpffxiv.1), email (velpffxiv@gmail.com), and through the contact page here on our website. We cannot expect people to trust us to be fair and approachable if we're not fair and approachable!

We were approached by the owner of After Effect, who shared that some of their venue patrons were uncomfortable that we used a screenshot of the venue with them in it without seeking consent. To be completely transparent, until this matter had been brought to our attention, we had not even thought about it at all.

We're grateful to the owner of After Effect, their staff, and patrons who brought this to our attention, and we are discussing this in the back with staff. Until we decide what we are doing, I am instituting a rule that any adult venue (venues with 18+ tags) or LGBTQIA+ venues will be of staff only, or require consent of others in the photo.

Why not ask for consent of staff? We believe staff are 'fair game,' so to speak, because they are working at and representing the venue.

The photo in the After Effect review will be replaced in the near future as we're collaborating with the owner to get a photo that does not have guests in it. When we decide on our official policy, we'll post about it.
